On June 20th the first-ever presidential debate organized by citizens took place. Three of the four candidates were present, Josefina Vázquez Mota, Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Gabriel Quadri. Even though the fourth candidate, Enrique Peña Nieto, was repeatedly invited, he declined the invitations arguing it was not a neutral and objective event. Al Jazeera reports:“The fact that three presidential candidates chose to take part in the debate shows politicians are beginning to recognise the importance of Mexico’s future generations.”
